A-Level Computer Science Tutor: Cambridge, AQA & OCR

A-Level Computer Science for Cambridge International, AQA and OCR students: data structures, object-oriented programming and theory, with past papers and guidance on the programming project.

  • Cambridge International (9618), AQA and OCR specifications
  • Data structures, algorithms and object-oriented programming in Python
  • Theory papers: architecture, networks, databases and theory of computation
  • NEA project guidance for AQA and OCR (the code and write-up stay your child's)

What your child will learn

What we cover

Advanced programming

Recursion, object-oriented design, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees and graphs.

Algorithms

Searching, sorting, graph traversal and Big-O, traced by hand and written in code.

Theory

Processor architecture, data representation, networks, databases and SQL, and theory of computation.

Exams and the NEA

Past papers to the board's mark scheme, and a project planned, built and documented on time.

A letter to parents

Dear parents,

I write software for a living, I've won 10 coding competitions run by companies like Samsung and Honeywell, and I've taught children to code for more than five years, from 7-year-olds building their first Scratch games to Grade 11 students training machine learning models. Your child learns from someone who uses these skills every day.

I teach every student myself, the same person every week. I learn how they think, where they get stuck and what they love to build. Then I plan the lessons around their exam board and their goals.

You get short updates on WhatsApp, and you can message me directly whenever you like.

Questions parents ask

A-Level Computer Science: FAQs

How is A-Level Computer Science assessed?

It depends on the board. Cambridge International (9618) has four papers, including a practical programming paper. AQA has an on-screen programming paper, a written paper and a programming project (NEA) worth 20%. OCR has two written papers and an NEA worth 20%. Check your board's current specification.

Can you help with the A-Level programming project (NEA)?

Yes: choosing a project, planning, design and technical feedback, within the board's rules. Your child writes the code and the documentation; the work has to be theirs.

How big is the jump from IGCSE to A-Level Computer Science?

Big. A-Level expects students to design larger programs on their own and adds harder theory, like data structures and theory of computation. Students who keep coding every week make the jump much more easily.

Which programming language do you teach for A-Level?

Python, which every one of these boards accepts. Lessons also cover the pseudocode and the exam conventions of your child's board.
